Posted: Wed, July 18, 2007
Dear Members and Friends,
The recent announcement by the State of Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) on the issuance of a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit to BP Products North America, Whiting, Indiana, has met, and rightfully so, with an avalanche of outcry not only from Save the Dunes, but also other trusted and respected parties, as well.
Currently, we are reviewing this critical issue in the most methodical and diligent manner, possible. State and local officials across the region have joined with us in an effort to gather pertinent information to determine the validity of IDEM’s actions, and the proper recourse available to us.
At this time, I encourage our membership to review our BP comments to IDEM, submitted during the public comment period. Please go to: http://www.savedunes.org/action_news/now/
After you have read our comments, please go to, Contact Your Legislators, where you can locate your legislators. Please send them your comments regarding this critical matter. Let them know your concerns regarding IDEM’s decision and advise them that you are a Save the Dunes member.
In our attempt to provide everyone with the most current and reliable information as possible, additional information will be placed on our website, as it becomes available,
Finally, please do not hesitate to contact us at: 219-879-3937, or the Save the Dunes’ website comment link: http://www.savedunes.org/contact_us/, should you have any questions or comments.
