The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore will begin restoration efforts on June 20th to return Cowles Bog to a wetland. Save the Dunes and several other local environmental organizations including the Shirley Heinz Land Trust, The Field Museum, the National Parks Conservation Association, The Nature Conservancy, and the Porter County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League strongly support the National Park Service’s restoration plans. The significance of Cowles Bog as a unique natural area has long been recognized and the proposed restoration will help to enhance its value to the region through improvements in water quality, habitat, and historical context. Save the Dunes along with these other organizations have provided comment to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management in support of the National Park Service’s restoration plans.
