Pushing the Issues: Enbridge’s Tar Sands Pipeline

enbridge

You may have noticed that Enbridge is beginning work to install Line 6B through our region.  Line 6B is a new, expanded pipeline to replace an existing pipeline that runs from Griffith, Indiana to Sarnia, Ontario. The flagging began two months ago, and at the end of August, Enbridge received its Clean Water Act Section 404 Permit from the US Army Corps of Engineers. A Section 404 Permit regulates the discharge of dredged and fill material into waters of the United States, including wetlands. Responsibility for administering and enforcing Section 404 is shared by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). With the issuance of this permit, construction on Line 6B can begin. Please use caution when driving and walking near construction areas. We will continue to provide information on this issue in our Enbridge section; check our Facebook page or watch our blog for updates.
