Save the Dunes Leads Asian Carp Tour in NW Indiana

asian carp bus tour lower res for wordpressOn October 29, 2013, Save the Dunes coordinated a bus tour with The Nature Conservancy and NW IN Forum to discuss local NW IN ramifications of potential separation of the waterways in Chicago to prevent Asian Carp (and other aquatic invasives) from entering the Great Lakes .

Other organizations that joined the tour included the Alliance for the Great Lakes, Friends of the Chicago River, Izaak Walton League (Porter Co Chapter), National Parks Conservation Association,  Prairie Rivers Network, Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

The group toured various sites and projects that would have to be further studied and modeled should a separation scenario happen in the future. These include the Grand Calumet River Dredging Project, the Little Calumet River levee/stormwater project, and more.  We also took a moment to enjoy the gorgeous DuPont dune and swale site managed by The Nature Conservancy. Thanks to everyone who joined us for this important discussion!
