If you’re looking for a fun way to experience the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore this summer, check out the list of events organized by the National Lakeshore below. In addition to these events, stop by the Douglas Center in Gary any day of the week from 9:00am-4:00pm, and enjoy hands-on family activities in the park’s west end visitor center, especially the new outdoor Nature Play zone where unstructured play is encouraged.  Follow the new extension trail through the rare oak savanna habitat to lake Michigan’s shoreline.  Inside the center, help feed the resident turtles and fish or make a free craft. Contact Julie Larsen for more info on Douglas Center events and activities (219-395-1821).
