Miller Woods Stewardship Day
Saturday, April 27
9:00am to 11:00am
Miller Woods (meet at the Lake Street Beach parking lot, 860 N Lake Street, Gary, Indiana)
Join Save the Dunes and the National Park Service for a stewardship event in Miller Woods on April 27th as part of Green Gary! We will be working in the northern section of Miller Woods, restoring our globally rare panne habitat by removing invasive species. Located in the low-lying depressions within the open dune complex at the southern tip of Lake Michigan, pannes are an extremely rare wetland community. In the US, pannes can only be found around the Great Lake Basin and Cape Cod. We're lucky to have high-quality pannes supporting over 200 native species in Northwest Indiana, but they're vulnerable to the impacts of invasive species and need our help.
Join us for a morning supporting the unique habitats of the City of Gary and the Indiana Dunes National Park, and afterward be sure to stop by the Paul H Douglas Center for Environmental Education for more Green Gary activities! The event runs from 10:00am-3:00pm and includes live animal presentations, insect displays, hiking and backpacking safety tips, surf and rescue training, and more!
