Save the Dunes is soliciting proposals for performances that celebrate the spirit of the original pageant for our 50th Anniversary Celebration at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore in September 2016.  We are looking for interactive performances about the history, ecology, legend or landscape of the Indiana Dunes aimed at family audiences.

The year 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, the 100th anniversary of Indiana’s State Park System and the 200th anniversary of the State of Indiana. Save the Dunes will be celebrating these meaningful anniversaries through the arts in 2016.

The movement to save the dunes began with a performance – The Great Dunes Pageant of 1917. Pageant planners were diverse bunch and included artists, architects, scientists, community leaders and dunes activists. The group used performance communicate the importance of protecting the dunes landscape by interpreting the history and ecology of the Indiana Dunes.
