GivingTuesday Flyer (11 in x 8.5)

Get Involved. Get Outside. Give.

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

This year, Giving Tuesday is on November 30, 2021, and Save the Dunes is offering free events to get involved and get outside throughout November in recognition of this global giving movement. Be sure to mark your calendar to join in on these activities for inspiration, education, and to learn how YOU can protect the Indiana dunes and Lake Michigan.

Tuesday, November 2nd - 6:00 PM CST: State of the Park, with the Indiana Dunes National Park Superintendent

The Indiana Dunes National Park is a treasured resource, and we hope that you know and love it as much as we do! With the transition from National Lakeshore to National Park, increased visitorship due to the global pandemic, 15 miles of dynamic Lake Michigan shoreline to maintain, and ecological threats new and old, the work of protecting and maintaining the Park never ends! Join us for this Facebook Live event to hear from Park Superintendent, Paul Labovitz, as he shares the latest updates from the Indiana Dunes National Park. Tune in via Facebook at 6:00 PM Central to join this presentation. A Facebook account is not required to watch the presentation on our page.

Tuesday, November 9th - 6:00 PM CST: Recycling & Reducing Waste During the Holidays

Guests, big dinners, and leftovers can sometimes leave us with more garbage on hand than usual. Join us for this Facebook Live event to hear from Keri Marrs Barron and Erika Mihalek of Porter County Recycling & Waste Reduction, to learn how you can be a good steward for the environment by reducing your waste throughout the holiday season. Please hop on our Facebook Page at 6:00 PM Central to join this presentation!

Tuesday, November 16th - 6:00 PM CST: A Conversation on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and the Environment

Racism is impeding our progress to achieve a healthy environment that is accessible by all. As an environmental community, and as a society, we need to do better to ensure that our BIPOC communities are part of the environmental conversation. Join us for this Facebook Live event to learn more about this issue from Kimmi Gordon, head of Brown Faces Green Spaces at 6 PM Central.

Friday, November 26th - 6:00 PM CST: #OptOutside Hike in the Indiana Dunes National Park

Each year, millions of people and hundreds of organizations join the #OptOutside movement to demonstrate the power of the outdoors against the turbulence and chaos of Black Friday sales and crowds. Though a coordinated hike will not take place this year, we encourage you to get outside regardless and to share your #OptOutside experience on Facebook and Instagram with #SavetheDunes!  See you on the trails!

Giving Tuesday, November 30th - 6:00 PM CST: Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Advocacy Training

Learn how you can make a difference in your community and take steps towards influencing those with power to bring about positive change. Applications will be available to those who may want to join our volunteer team of advocates to travel to Washington D.C. to speak out for the Indiana dunes and Lake Michigan. Be sure to tune in for this Facebook Live event to hear more from our Program Director, Katie Hobgood.
