Healing Our Waters – Great Lakes Coalition

HOW 2015

The HOW Indiana Team Advocating for Great Lakes Protection in Washington DC

Save the Dunes’ Executive Director Nicole Barker is one of three Co-chairs of the 15-member Governance Board of the Healing Our Waters – Great Lakes (HOW) Coalition, which consists of more than 125 environmental, conservation, and outdoor recreation organizations, zoos, aquariums and museums dedicated to protecting our Great Lakes. HOW member organizations represent millions of people who share a common goal of restoring and protecting North America’s greatest freshwater resource, the Great Lakes.  Each year we work with our elected officials to push coalition priorities that will help ensure our Great Lakes remain healthy, vibrant and a critically productive economic engine in our region. Save the Dunes sends staff and board members to Washington, DC each year to meet with elected officials regarding important Great Lakes matters including preventing Asian Carp from entering our lakes, sustained funding for Great Lakes restoration, stabilized funding for State Revolving Funds that help address Combined Sewer Overflows and other infrastructure and drinking water issues, maintaining funding for Farm Bill programs that benefit water quality in Indiana, controlling existing invasive species, and more.
