MICHIGAN CITY, IN – Earlier this month, over 1,000 individuals and families attended Save the Dunes’ signature fundraiser, Jammin with Save the Dunes, at Michigan City’s Guy Foreman Amphitheater. Proceeds from the event supported the work of local nonprofit Save the Dunes, who for the last 65 years has been committed to protecting, preserving, and restoring the Indiana Dunes and Lake Michigan for future generations.
“This year we had our largest crowd yet” said Save the Dunes’ Executive Director, Natalie Johnson. “It’s incredible to see so many come out to support a good cause all while having a good time.”
Throughout the afternoon and evening, people could be seen enjoying food from the many local food trucks, trying a new brew from over 10 breweries and wineries present, or dancing by the stage to some incredible music, including headliner Freddy Jones Band. Kids also enjoyed the event’s “Kids Zone” which featured a giant game of Jenga as well as t-shirt tie-dying.
“One thing we love about Jammin’” said Save the Dunes board president, Scott Kosik, “is that this is a family friendly event. Our opening band is always geared towards kids. This year’s band, School of Rock-Oak Park, did not disappoint.”
The always popular Corey Dennison Blues Band also was featured at Jammin with Save the Dunes, and called kids onto the stage to dance with the band.
“It’s just a feel-good event;” said attendee Mike Wierzbicki, “everyone is always in a great mood.”
This year marked seven years of Jammin with Save the Dunes in Washington Park and plans are already underway for the 8th Annual Jammin with Save the Dunes for June of 2018.
“There is no way this event would be possible without the support of committed staff, volunteers, and especially our sponsors,” said Johnson. “We’re also incredibly thankful to all who attended the event to support our cause.”
