Please join us for a panel discussion on Sunday, July 26, from 1-3 PM at the Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts, sponsored by Save the Dunes and the Miller Beach Arts and Creative District (MBACD). The panel, “Art, Ecology, and Happenings in the Dunes,” will feature the artists in the current exhibition, Lora Fosberg, Corey Hagelberg, and Laura Marie Panozzo, who will discuss their work, plus we are honored to be joined by Paul Labovitz, Superintendent of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore; Laura Brennan, Biological Science Technician at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore; Paul Labus, Northwest Indiana Program Director for The Nature Conservancy; and Nicole Barker, Executive Director of Save the Dunes. The show is curated by Kay Rosen and Rachel Weiss of MBACD and Nicole Barker.
This should be an educational and inspiring conversation about the issues we now face as we think about how the dunes landscape has been integral to the development of the region, how their preservation has become a central element in thinking about the future sustainability of the area, and how to preserve this vital resource for generations to come.
The panel and the exhibition anticipate and lead up to three exciting historic anniversaries happening in 2016: the 50th anniversary of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, the Centennial of the National Park Service, and the Centennial of the Indiana State Park System.
