Dear Members, Supporters, and Partners of Save the Dunes:

I am writing today to share the bittersweet news of my impending resignation as Executive Director of Save the Dunes. I have made this decision so that I may spend more time with my family in the St. Louis area. I am looking forward to my next adventure which will relocate me closer to where I grew up while also maintaining some roots in this incredible region I have grown to love so dearly.

As I reflect on my 9.5 years in Northwest Indiana, I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside so many skilled environmentalists, passionate community members, and committed partners. The region has never failed to surprise

me with its many opportunities and challenges to protect our beloved dunes and majestic Lake Michigan shoreline. I am proud of what we have done together, from holding polluters accountable to celebrating pollinators, to creating a greater awareness of our most treasured assets - our Indiana Dunes National Park and State Park.
I have confidence that Save the Dunes’ Staff and Board will continue to be innovative and resilient during this time of transition. The organization is deeply fortunate to have such an incredible team to carry our mission forward. I am also personally committed to ensuring a successful transition and will remain involved until the search for a new Executive Director is completed. Truly, I am thrilled for the next chapter in leadership for Save the Dunes and I can’t wait to see what new successes the organization and its supporters achieve. Save the Dunes is something that I will continue to believe in and support, no matter my location.

Thank you for the privilege of serving as Save the Dunes’ Executive Director. I look forward to seeing you out on the trails and on the beach.

Sincerely,

Natalie Johnson, Executive Director
