A Successful NPF 2025 Hill Day for Save the Dunes!

Save the Dunes is a proud partner of the National Park Foundation (NPF)- the official nonprofit partner of the National Park Service! NPF “raises private funds to help protect more than 84 million acres of national parks through critical conservation and preservation efforts, connect all people with their incomparable natural landscapes, vibrant culture and rich history, and engage the next generation of park stewards.”

Each year in the spring, national park partners from across the country head to Washington, D.C. for NPF Hill Day to elevate the stories of their state’s national park, and to tell the story of restoration success and the importance of funding to sustain projects within our national parks (including our own Indiana Dunes National Park).

Save the Dunes joined National Park Foundation staff and Indiana board members, meeting with seven different offices during our visit to share powerful stories and discuss several bipartisan bills that help the Indiana Dunes National Park, including the Great American Outdoors Act and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

Save the Dunes was proud to join over 100 park partners, board members and National Council Members in Washington D.C. to share strengthen vital relationships during 250+ congressional office meetings. Together with other park partners across the US, we we able to highlight the importance of our national parks and keep them a priority in our Hoosier state.

Save the Dunes has established a close relationship with Northwest Indiana Representative Frank Mrvan. During our DC visit we discussed the recent projects that support Indiana Dunes National Park and the importance of continuing to fund restoration projects for several buildings in the park (including the House of Tomorrow and Bailly Homestead) and thanked him for his continued support of conservation projects in the park to combat invasive species and restore local habitats.

We loved ending NPF Hill Day on a high note, celebrating the support from Indiana Congressman Mrvan and Senator Young for the bipartisan Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Bill of 2025, allocating funds to clean up toxic pollution, restore fish and wildlife habitat, reduce farm and city runoff pollution, and prevent and manage invasive species.

All in all, it was a very successful visit to our nation’s capitol to advocate for the Indiana Dunes National Park. We are so grateful for the opportunity to speak up for our own national park, and we can’t wait to return next year!
