US Army Corp Releases New Guidance for Federal Investments in Water Resources

The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has recently released new guidance that USACE says will provide a framework to govern how USACE would evaluate proposed water resource investments in the future.

This includes USACE engineers having the ability to value approaches with benefits that require less structural plans, but still are seen as positive for the environment and the local communities that live there.

This includes integrating more projects with nature based alternative options, improving USACE’s ability to build resilience in a broad range of communities including rural, tribal, and low-income areas.

This is a huge win for the Northwest Indiana region! We face a variety of issues such as shoreline erosion and efforts to increase our coastal resiliency where USACE gets involved. This guidance moves us towards prioritizing long-term nature based solutions to preserve our coastal region for all Hoosiers to enjoy.
