Save the Dunes is still hard at work as the 2025 Indiana State Legislative session enters the second month. The General Assembly officially started on January 8th and lasts until late April.

Lawmakers also will have to pass a new budget to run the state for the next two years during this session. Some of the key environmental issues being discussed in bills going forward in readings include water usage, PFAS, and prescribed burning. 

Save the Dunes’s bill watch list is posted here, highlighting some of the bills that are of high priority to our region and our organization. Although some of these bills listed are dead, some of their language may be included in other bills so we will continue to monitor their progression. We will post any important updates or action alerts on our social media sites, and work with our local representatives during the session to help support and advocate for the Indiana dunes, Lake Michigan, and the surrounding natural areas for the health and vitality of the environment, and the people who live, work, and recreate in Northwest Indiana.
