A Successful NPF 2026 Hill Day for Save the Dunes!

Each year in the spring, national park partners from across the country head to Washington, D.C. for NPF Hill Day to elevate the stories of their state’s national park, and share the importance of funding to sustain restoration and public access projects within our national parks, including our own Indiana Dunes National Park.

Save the Dunes was proud to join over 89 park partners, NPF board members and National Council Members and the Dunes Learning Center in Washington D.C. to strengthen vital relationships during 250+ congressional office meetings. We met with seven different offices during our visit to discuss several bipartisan bills that help the Indiana Dunes National Park, including the Legacy Restoration Fund and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. Together with other park partners across the US, we were able to highlight the importance of our national parks and keep them a priority in our Hoosier state.

Save the Dunes has built a strong relationship with the office of Todd Young. During our visit, we discussed recent projects supporting the Indiana Dunes National Park and emphasized the importance of continued investment in the Legacy Restoration Fund. This critical funding supports projects within the park, including the House of Tomorrow and the Bailly Homestead.

We closed out NPF Hill Day on a high note, celebrating the leadership of Frank Mrvan and Senator Young in advancing the bipartisan Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. This program plays a vital role in cleaning up toxic pollution, restoring fish and wildlife habitat, reducing runoff from farms and cities, and preventing and managing invasive species.

It was a highly successful visit to our nation’s capital to advocate for the Indiana Dunes! We are grateful for the opportunity to elevate the importance of our national park and look forward to continuing this work in the years ahead.
